"If you win, I'll buy it for you," his coach told the future tennis number one and founder of a fashion empire. Neither of them knew at the time just how influential the young Lacoste would be on fashion and trends in the future.
After the end of his career, in 1933, Lacoste officially founded the eponymous brand, which he imprinted with his long-standing alligator nickname. The fashion world would probably never have been the same place if Lacoste hadn't come up with a new cut of T-shirts back then. A collar, a few buttons at the neck, short sleeves, and the so-called polo was born.
